Our Story
PetSupplementGuide is an independent UK guide to pet supplements, comparing ingredients and doses against the published research. It started the way most useful websites do: with a frustrating shopping trip. Searching for a joint supplement for an ageing Labrador meant wading through brand-owned content, American guides recommending products you can't buy here, and review sites that never seemed to say a bad word about anything.
So we started keeping notes — what we bought, what the labels actually said, which ingredient doses matched the published research and which fell short. Those notes became this website.
The principle is simple: we compare products on what's in them and what they cost, we say so when the evidence for an ingredient is weak, and no brand can pay to influence what we recommend.
Who We Are
PetSupplementGuide is a small, independent UK editorial team of pet owners. We are not vets, and we don't claim to be — what we do is read labels, compare doses against the published research, track UK prices, and write up what we find in plain English. For anything to do with your own animal's health, your vet should always be the first call.

- We base our ratings on ingredient evidence and verified buyer reviews, not free samples or sponsorship from brands.
- No brand can pay to be included in, or excluded from, our guides.
- Affiliate relationships are disclosed on every page where they apply.
- We update our guides at least every six months, or whenever significant new products or research emerge.
- We always recommend consulting a vet before starting any supplement regime.
How We Rate
We don't run a testing lab, and we don't pretend to. What we do is assess each product on the things that actually predict whether it works. We read the label and check every active ingredient against the dose shown to be effective in the veterinary literature. We look at whether the brand has published any trial on its own finished product. And we read through the buyer reviews at scale, on Amazon, Pets at Home and VioVet, because the pattern across thousands of owners, good and bad, tells you more about real-world results and palatability than any handful of test animals could. We say so plainly when the evidence for an ingredient is weak.
For individual reviews we score across the same dimensions: ingredient quality and dosage, the evidence base for the key ingredients, palatability and ease of administration, value for money (cost per effective dose at your pet's weight), and any adverse effects owners commonly report.
